This article discusses that despite academic and scientific scenarios are considered elite, gender relations do not escape to the crossroads of patriarchal culture. For that purpose, through the stories of professors dedicated to science and research, recognized in the National System of Researchers (SNI) of Mexico, this paper analyzes the difficulties and the strategies they use to reconcile the family life and scientific life. The women dedicated to the science face greater challenges and difficulties for positioning in the SNI, the social construction of gender and the exercise of the maternity leave will be some elements that determine the challenges to move from one level to another.
